Facts about Rosacea and what you can do to treat it naturally!

There are three things that I wish I would never have to worry about again within my lifetime.  The first being money (this is on the top of most peoples lists, right?), the second is my weight, and third my Rosacea.

Unfortunately, the first two, seems I will ALWAYS have to worry about unless I win the lottery and befriend a good plastic surgeon and hire a trainer and a cook and a permanent yoga class to de-stress.

The last one... well, I can certainly control that one to the best of my ability and knowledge.  For those that know me, I am a bit of a tinkering chemist.  I love to make homemade concoctions of all kinds, including soaps, creams and salves.  (my stuff available on Etsy Trendy Trinkets Etsy Page) I'm also a bit of naturalist, and would really prefer to only put things on my skin that can be found in nature and in their raw form.  I'm sure that most of you feel the same way, but because of our crazy busy lives, we settle for what we are "told" is all natural from labels of the products that we conveniently buy at the market.  What we aren't told, is that the "natural" stuff they put in these products are also coupled with shelf-life extenders like parabens, sodium hydroxide or laureth sulfates that are scientifically proven to age you and cause all kinds of skin issues ranging from dermatitis to cancer.   But of course, if the label says it's natural, our minds tend to believe the first thing that the marketing company that created that label, put prominently on the bottle.

Dermatologists are no better.  They are slaves to the pharmaceutical industry so they prescribe all kinds of chemically enhanced products in order to get kick-backs from the pharma-manufacturers.  I was one of those people that was treating my skin issues with creams that the doctor would prescribe me.  Yes, they would work initially. But over time, the effects would wear away, causing the doctor to prescribe something stronger, and usually more expensive.  It truly is a viscous trifectish cycle between the doctors, pharmaceutical corporations and insurance companies. (But I won't get into that rant right now.)

So I began to do some research as far as to what actually causes Rosecea. One word... hormones.  Unfortunately, there isn't an actual cure for Rosacea. If you have it, you more than likely were born with some kind of form of it, and if it's not treated, the symptoms can get worse.  Treating Rosacea can be simple.  For example, staying out of the sun for long periods of time will help to avoid redness and pimply breakouts.  If you are going to go to the beach, or spend a lot of time outside, wear a hat and put a good paba-free sunscreen at least SPF 30.  Avoid wine and alcohol because it contributes to the change in body temperature and can cause a flair up.  But there is more that you can do on a daily basis to help the redness and swelling, as well as keep it in check.

About a year ago, I discovered jojoba oil.  This amazing light oil has so many great benefits for anything that has to do with your hair and skin.  It's a natural skin softener, lip conditioner, facial cleanser and even a great make-up remover!  My favorite benefit has been that it helps to calm and soothe skin.  Especially when I have had a Rosacea breakout.

According to the American Journal of Toxicology, jojoba oil, the oily extract from a dessert plant, has been identified as one of the best forms of hydrating dry, chapped skin for people that suffer from dermatitis, psoriasis and Rosacea. The oil from the jojoba plant has the closest consistency to our own human glandular oils and helps to replace what is lost on the skin.  Several tests have been conducted using only the oil directly on the skin, as well as mixing it with other natural known remedies that help to replenish the skin and to calm and sooth redness and swelling.  Each test conducted lead to the same positive result... the user experienced less redness and swelling, and when used consistently, at least once in the evening before bed, the visible effects of Rosacea where significantly reduced.

After doing all of my research, I began applying the pure oil directly to my face every night before bed.  The nights I remembered to follow my regimen of washing my face with a light milk and honey soap (glycerin vegan based) Try my Baby Soft Milk and Honey soap here! and follow it up with the pure jojoba oil rub, my face would be renewed and refreshed the next morning.  Doing this at night would allow the oil to be absorbed by the skin and get the full benefit of it's anti-inflammatory properties.

Sharing this with friends and family that suffer from the same issues, they have all reported back with the same amazing results!  Each person had their own winning story about how their redness and swelling has been greatly reduced and they are feeling much more confident when they are not shying away due to the ugly red blotches or pimply breakouts of this skin issue.  Try it for yourself and let me know how you did!  Be sure to purchase a good quality jojoba oil.  This is the one I have been using Purejojoba.
